Heritage West Coast AGM and Annual Heritage Forum

Capability and Resilience are the keywords for this year’s Heritage West Coast Annual Forum. With the society’s latest strategic project progressing, Project Manager Laugharne Kemp is looking forward to gathering like-minded individuals to “chew the fat”.

“This forum is a perfect opportunity to harness the collective brain power of the West Coast heritage sector,” Mr Kemp says. “The Capability and Resilience Project is an all-inclusive endeavour. If you have a connection to the preservation of our regional heritage, I want you to be involved.”

The forum will be held in Kotuku at the historic Jack’s Mill School on Saturday, 23rd September, in conjunction with Heritage West Coast’s AGM. Heritage groups across the region will come together to present their projects, collaborate and share ideas, plan and discuss any issues and challenges. “There are a huge number of heritage undertakings across our region. The forum is one of the few opportunities to connect everyone in person.”

Also on the agenda for the day is an overview of the Jack’s Mill School project and a presentation from Mike Gillies, the West Coast’s Conservation Advisor for Heritage New Zealand. Mike will discuss his locally based role and provide an insight into the residential historic heritage training workshops Heritage New Zealand and the Department of Conservation have recently run at Waiuta.

The annual forum is open to anyone interested in heritage. Registrations are essential as spaces are limited. Anyone planning on coming is asked to contact Heritage West Coast Chairperson Jackie Gurden.
